Third annual Mercury Marine Family Fishing Clinic

(Dec 09, 2008) -

On Saturday, December 6, more than 400 families came to the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame & Museum in Dania Beach, Florida to take part in the third annual Mercury Marine Family Fishing Clinic. The families were made up of children of all ages, including parents and grandparents.

The Mercury Marine Family Fishing Clinic is a free event, hosted by staff from the International Game Fish Association and by Mercury Marine-sponsored guides and anglers. Mike Myatt, Dave Matagiese and other staff members from the IGFA were on-hand to assist with all aspects of the clinic. Captains Larry Sydnor, Chris Jones and Mark Johnson, Mercury-sponsored anglers, came up from Islamorada to speak and educate on back-country fishing and the preservation of the environment.

Also on-site were several Mercury Pro Staff Offshore Anglers: Capt. Art Sapp, Capt. Jamie Bunn, Capt. Kurtis Shuttler and his son Rykur Shuttler, Capt. Kirk Beattie and Kody Beattie. They demonstrated many of the aspects of fishing, including proper casting techniques, bait presentation, knot tying and cast net throwing.

Dave Rigby, on-air personality from WKIS Kiss Country in Miami, broadcast live from the event. Each of the guides donated a half-day fishing charter, a drawing for which was held after the seminars had ended for the day. There were raffles every half-hour for prizes such as fishing rods, visors, and signed Pasta Pantaleo swordfish prints. Aside from the raffles and drawings, there were free giveaways for those attending.

Mercury Marine’s support trailer was also on display, with Mercury Marine staff on-hand to answer questions ranging from technical service to new product education.

The third annual Mercury Marine Family Fishing Clinic was a resounding success. Those attending repeatedly thanked the staff, anglers and volunteers for organizing such an informative and interactive event. One parent commented “thank you for a great time, my son loves to fish and when he heard this advertised on Kiss, he couldn't wait to get here and talk with the real pros".
